There were a few chores that didn’t make the job description when the club advertised for a game day manager, like storing beer in a neighbour's garage to ensure we didn’t run dry on derby day.
But that's just one of the think-on-your-feet challenges Prue Berne has not only embraced but is loving as the newest member of the Marlins staff.
Seeking a change of gears – and a move closer to home – after working at a creative agency in Coogee for years, Prue won the gig for the newly-created role of game day manager, assisting general manager Greg Marr a couple of days a week.
"The biggest challenge so far was keeping up with the demand for beer at the Anzac Day local derby," she laughed.
"The role is incredibly diverse. From staffing game days to managing stock and ensuring everything runs smoothly, it's like trying to be the conductor of a well-oiled machine.
"It's a dynamic role that keeps me on my toes, and I'm enjoying every moment of it."
The mother of two is no stranger to football clubs.
Her dad is former Sea Eagle Chris Ryan while her husband Mick, whose father John represented the Wallabies before switching to league, played for Randwick and Leinster.
Prue's also served on the Harbord Harlequins rugby board and is a member of the St Augustine’s Rugby committee, watching son Jack play for the school when time permits.
"I'm absolutely loving it at Manly. Every day brings something new and exciting, and I'm gradually getting to grips with all the different aspects of the role," she continued.
"It's been a fulfilling journey so far. There has been so much guidance and support but also being given the opportunity to do it in my own way has been great."
It's great to have you aboard, Prue
