Outside of family, it’s a toss-up what ranks next on Adam Hill's list of passions – rugby or painting?
Hilly's been around Manly rugby for 50 years, starting as a player and holding down myriad volunteer positions while building up his business - Adam Hill Designs - alongside wife Michele.
Now he's combining his two great loves, donating a prized seascape painting – titled High Above The Bower – to be auctioned as part of next month's big annual lunch.
It's a generous offering and a rare chance to win a valued piece of art.
Hilly's paintings hang in houses in Queenstown, New York and San Francisco, bought by foreigners wanting a memory of their time in Manly and Sydney.
He has also undertaken many commissions for locals since starting as a semi-professional painter in 1990.
"This painting is taken from a drone photograph my nephew took. Fairy Bower, on a clear day, is such an inspiration for a seascape artist to paint," Hilly explained.
"This gives an opportunity for a member of the rugby and Manly community to win a piece of original artwork for a small investment.
"As a former board member, I know how costly it is to run a rugby club these days and if the club can financially benefit from this, that would be fantastic."
The 150cm x 120cm painting will be on display in the 1883 Club (above the canteen) at home matches this Saturday and against Souths on July 13.
Bids will be accepted in the lead up to the lunch and on the day itself.
Thanks, Hilly. The club deeply appreciates your contribution.
